James Arnold Toner, 81, of Rogersville, Mo., died Oct. 11, 2012.
He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Boonville, Mo., the son of the late James Victor and Mayme Marie (Arnold) Toner. He was united in marriage on June 1, 1956, to Fay Etta Garner. After 51 years of marriage, she preceded him in death in 2007.
He was also preceded in death by a son, James William Toner, in 1965.
He was a 1949 graduate of Dexter High School and graduated in 1953 from the University of Missouri with a Vocational Agriculture degree. He was a U.S. Army Veteran in the Artillery Division, serving in Oklahoma, Germany, and Kentucky. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rogersville and a long-time member of Wyatt Park Christian Church in St. Joseph, Mo.
Jim taught vocational agriculture at Gideon High School and held managerial positions in the agribusiness industry. He was named "Boss of the Year" by the St. Joseph, Mo., Chamber of Commerce and served on the Southside Sewer Commission for a number of years.
He is survived by a daughter, Julie Fay Toner, of Louisville, Ky.; a son, John Arnold Toner, and his wife Tonya of Rogersville; two grandchildren, Patrick James Schrader and Megan Fay Schrader, both of Louisville, Ky; his companion, Dorothy Jones, of Rogersville; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held Oct. 15, 2012, at the Essex Cemetery under the direction of J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home in Rogersville, Mo.
