Joan Johnson Kittel, daughter of the late Arthur Johnson and Evadne Smith Johnson was born on Jan. 9,1923, in Bernie, Mo., and died Nov.13, 2012, at her residence in Bernie at the age of 89.

She had worked at Crown Cork and Seal Factory in St. Louis, Mo., was a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church of Bernie.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy Rogers Smith and husband Charles of Bernie; five grandchildren, Tara Zeller, Jeff Smith, Jarrod Smith, Jackie Mayberry, and Jodi Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Andy Zeller, Matt Zeller, Catlyn Smith, Morgyn Smith, Jarret Smith, Jaelyn Smith, Mason Mayberry, and Logan Mayberry; by two special nieces, Pam Johnson Morgan and Debbie Johnson Hobgood; also four special caregivers, Joyce Mickey, Linda Burch, Sandy Dillinger, and Holly Gertsch; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death other than by her parents, by one brother, Arthur Dale Johnson.

Visitation will be held at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
