The Bernie Mules have received the No. 1 seed in the Campbell Invitational varsity boys basketball tournament.
"The number one seed in the opening tournament doesn't mean a whole lot," Bernie coach Brad Botsch said following the seed meeting Wednesday afternoon. "Nobody has played yet and there are several teams who could have gamered that spot. We appreciate the respect shown by the coaches, but we want to be the No. 1 at the conclusion of the tournament."
Holcomb is seeded second, Risco is seeded third, Twin Rivers is seeded fourth, Puxico is seeded fifth, Bloomfield is seeded sixth, East Prairie is seeded seventh and Campbell is seeded eighth.
The tournament will take place Nov. 26 - Nov. 30. The title game is Nov. 30 at 8:30 p.m.
Risco beat Holcomb last season in the title game to win the tournament for the first time since the 1974-75 season.
"It's kind of where I thought we would be," Holcomb coach Seth McBroom said of receiving the No. 2 seed. "But with these preseason tournaments nobody really knows. It's always a competitive tournament that is hard to seed."
Bernie won the tournament four straight seasons before Risco won it in 2011.
