Joy Marie Riggins Hampton

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Joy Marie Riggins Hampton, daughter of the late Travis "Jack" Riggins and Rose Isaac Riggins, was born on Nov. 10, 1940, in Dudley, Mo., and died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at her residence in Dudley at the age of 72.

She married Ervin Hampton in 1965 and moved to St. Louis where she worked for Southern Pacific Communications. From their union, three daughters were born. Mr. Hampton preceded her in death on July 1, 1982. She later moved back to Dudley and was a homemaker.

In August of 1987, she met a very special man, Marion "Red" Lynch, and spent the rest of her life with him by her side.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda and Lloyd Hull of Puxico, Brenda Hampton of Dudley, and Sharon and David Phillips of Puxico; two brothers, Larry Riggins of Puxico and John Riggins of Louisiana; two sisters, Helen Walker and Sarah Aarant, both of Dexter; three grandchildren, Mandy Hampton Powell and her husband, Eric, Zachary Hull, and Dalton Phillips; and three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Waylon, and Aubree Jean Powell. Also surviving is a special niece, Sheri Lynn Barker, of Tyler, Texas.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, Herman Riggins, Howard Riggins, James "Curley" Riggins, and Ed Riggins, three sisters, Betty Barker, Lorene Abernathy, and Mary Hays.

If you ever drove by a home that she lived in, then you already know that a passion of hers was working in her yard. She loved planting and growing beautiful flowers and grasses. One thing she loved more was caring for her grandbabies. She looked forward to every moment she could spend with them. She never missed a volleyball, baseball, or basketball game.

Visitation was held at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012. The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, with Rev. Ray Placher officiating. Interment followed in the Ash Hill Cemetery in Fisk.
