Velma Irene Barker

Velma Irene Barker, age 87, of Alvin, Texas, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at her residence. Velma was born on Jan. 29, 1925, in Kin-der, Mo., and was an off and on resident of Alvin since 1994. Prior to residing in Alvin, she was a lifetime resident of Dexter, Mo.

Velma was an active member of the Church of Christ in both Alvin and Dexter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Barker, and her parents, Marie and Robert Burnett.

Velma is survived by her daughters, Sandra Barker and Ruthie Gorbey (and husband Kevin); three grandchildren, Amanda Diaz, Jason Penn, and Amy Smith; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Barker, Liam Diaz, Thomas Beard, and Xander Searcy; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held

at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. Graveside services and interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
