Mary Ann was born March 31, 1922, in Silva, Mo., the daughter of Lucien and Ethel Lewallen Holmes. Mary Ann grew up in the Williamsville area and lived above Holmes Store that her parents owned and operated. After graduating high school she went to Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, earning a degree in teaching.
On April 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to Charles W. Riddle Sr., and to this union five children were born.
Mary Ann taught home economics for several years in many different school systems while she followed her husband, a superintendent.
Mary is survived by her five children, Charles W. Riddle, Jr, Nolandsville, Tenn., James B. Riddle and wife, Debbie, Breese, Ill., Gary L. Riddle and wife, Beth, Scott City, Mo., Robert A. Riddle, Dexter, Mo., Elizabeth A. Beaher and husband, Joe, New Madrid, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Alanna, Andrea, Ashley, Amy, Joey, Annie, Mandy, Christine, Angie, Dan, Afton; 12 great-grandchildren, Emma, Bray, Grace, Levi, Sam, Joy, Ben, Jack, Riley, Maddie, Abey, and Jonas; one sister, June Shearer of Hannibal, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Orion Holmes, William Holmes, and Benjamin Holmes; one sister, Sibyl Nothdurft; and one grandson, Michael Riddle.
Visitation was held Sunday, Dec.16, 2012, at Ruegg Funeral Home in Williamsville, Mo., at 5 p.m. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the United Methodist Church, in Williamsville at 11 a.m. Pastor Jerry Mattson conducted the ceremonies.
Burial was at Montgomery Chapel Cemetery, Silva, Mo.
