William Lee DePriest died Dec.16, 2012. He was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Linden, Tenn., to William Nathan DePriest and Verna Berry DePriest.
William was united in marriage to Mertie Kathryne Moore on April 25, 1938, and to this union three children were born, Vivian, Ronald and Darryl. William moved his family to Dexter in 1945 when he entered the Navy. He served in the Navy for two years during World War II. He and Kathryne were married for 21 years. She preceded him in death on May 14, 1959.
William married Goldie Watkins on Nov. 11, 1960. She had four sons, George, Jr., Bobby, Larry, and Paul David. William and Goldie were married for 50 years. Goldie preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2011.
William was a retired plumber and a rural water district employee.
William was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, three brothers, three sisters, two grandsons, two stepsons and one great-granddaughter.
He is survived by a daughter, Vivan Burnsed, of Dade City, Fla; two sons, Ronald DePriest of Derby, Kan., and Darryl DePriest of Fulton, Mo.; two stepsons, George Watkins, Jr. of Bloomfield and Larry Watkins of Dexter; seven grand children; 12 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-great-great grandchildren; one brother, Glen DePriest of Chattaroy, Wash.; and one sister, Helen Vaughn of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Greg Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
