A Bloomfield man was found dead in the cab of a pickup truck at Dexter's West City Park Friday afternoon, and an investigation by local police is underway.
A call to the Stoddard County Ambulance District at about 12:40 p.m. Friday stated that a man had shot himself and was in a pickup truck on the park grounds. Dexter's West City Park is located directly across from the Stoddard County Ambulance District facility on Business Highway 60.
Ambulance and police arrived at the park within moments of the call and found the victim, 44-year-old Alan Dale Hanner, in one of two parked pickup trucks on the grounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Deputy Coroner Kenny Pope.
Det. Cory Mills of the Dexter Police Department is heading up the investigation into the cause of the man's death and circumstances surrounding the incident. The department is not labeling the death as a suicide at this time.
"The investigation is ongoing," Mills stated in a news release late Friday. "The cause of death is pending at this time until further investigation is completed by the Dexter Police Department," Mills said.
It was not confirmed by police that Hanner died at the park. The park grounds were shut off to the public for a time Friday afternoon following the death.
Missouri State Highway Patrol joined Dexter City police in securing the area of West City Park until evidence from the scene could be examined.
The Daily Statesman will keep readers informed as to discoveries regarding the death of Alan Hanner as they are received.
