Team to take part in 'Elite Shootout'Saturday in St. Louis

Dexter's Lady Bearcats basketball team will return to action tonight at the Bearcat Event Center after a long holiday break that saw the team capture its second straight Twin Rivers Lady Royals Christmas Classic.

Dexter, now 10-1 on the season, will host the Farmington Lady Knights tonight with junior varsity play tipping off at 6 p.m.

Dexter, currently ranked No. 8 in the most recent MBCA, will be on the road this weekend as the Lady Bearcats will take part in the Prepcasts Elite Girls Shootout V, which will be held at DeSmet High School in St. Louis.

The event will feature some of the state's best girls basketball teams and is billed as the "best all-girls shootout in Missouri."

Dexter, a Class 4 state quarterfinalist in 2012 will play the opening game of the shootout against the Webster Groves Lady Statesmen, a district semifinalist a year ago. Tip-off is set for 1 o'clock and admission for the entire day is $5.00.

The Shootout will feature five games. Following the Dexter-Webster Groves game at 2:30 will be the Parkway South Patriots vs. the Ozark Tigers. Parkway South was a state sectional team last year while Ozark was a state quarterfinalist.

At 4:15, the Rock Bridge Bruins will take on the Marian Catholic Spartans. Rock Bridge was the Class 5 state champions in 2012 while Marian reached the sectional semifinals.

Beginning at approximately 5:45 will be the Republic Tigers taking on the Westminster Christian Academy Wildcats. Republic won the Class 4 state title in 2012 while Westminster finished fourth.

The night cap matchup at approximately 7:15 will feature the St. Joseph's Academy Angels vs. the Carthage Tigers. St. Joseph was a Class 5 state quarterfinalist in 2012 while Carthage was a Class 5 state sectional team.
