Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Associated Press

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- The men who died in a reported murder-suicide Sunday morning have been identified by Park Hills Police. One is a Stoddard County native, B.J. Edwards, 20.

According to Park Hills Police, an altercation began inside a residence on Rivermines Street in Park Hills about 2 a.m. Once outside, Joseph Lee Gilliam, 22, of Park Hills, shot Billy Jo Edwards, 30, of rural Park Hills, before turning the gun on himself.

Police say they were initially dispatched to a domestic disturbance. While responding, officers were advised that there was a firearm involved and shots had been fired.

Gilliam was found in the driveway. Edwards was found near a parked SUV in the driveway. Witnesses told police an altercation had occurred between Gillam and Edwards inside the residence and then moved outside.

Autopsies were being performed Monday.

Edwards was a native of Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School. He was the son of Calvin Edwards of Bloomfield and Billie Kaye Edwards of Park Hills.

Services for B.J. Edwards are scheduled to take place in Dexter on Thursday. A complete obituary appears on page five of today's Daily Statesman.
