Alta Reed, daughter of the late Garfield Davis and Lucy Belle Johnson Davis, was born on Aug. 31, 1915, at Lexington, Tenn., and died on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center at Bloomfield at the age of 89.

Mrs. Reed was a resident of Bloomfield, formerly of Dexter, a member of the Dexter Church of Christ, formerly employed at the State School for the Handicapped in Bloomfield, and a homemaker.

She was first united in marriage to Montie White at Steele. Mr. White preceded her in death in 1984. She then was united in marriage to Lois A. Reed on Oct. 17, 1985, at Dexter. Mr. Reed preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2005.

Survivors include four sons, Jerry Lynn White of Cape Girardeau, Kenneth Ronald White of St. Louis, Charles Glen White of Advance, and Ron Wayne White of Springfield; one step-son, Wafe B. Reed of Dexter; one sister, Aldeena Southern of Portageville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter at birth, Alice White; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Dale Grissom officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
