Philip D. Montgomery, the son of the late Garfield and Francis Reed Montgomery, was born in Gideon on Oct. 4, 1941, and died at the Beverly Health & Rehab Center in Dexter on Sept. 29, 2002, at the age of 60. Mr. Montgomery had lived in Dexter all his life. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Bernie and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had worked at Purolator Company in Dexter for 19 years before ill health forced his retirement. On July 4, 1973, he was married to Barbara Mason in Dexter. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Montgomery of Dexter; two sons, Clint and Wesley Montgomery, both of Dexter; two daughters, Ramona Mason of Dexter, and Tammy Kanavel of Grewelthorpe, England; six grandchildren; two brothers, David and Barry Montgomery, both of Dexter; and one sister, Judy Nea of Dexter. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Elbert Mason of Irondale and the Rev. Danny Marshall of Sikeston officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
