Jewell Mae Tate, daughter of the late Willie Alfonzo McCain and Grace Stroble McCain was born on Nov. 13, 1914, in Pershing, Ill. and died in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dexter on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the age of 87. Mrs. Tate was a former owner and operator of restaurants in Malden and Bloomfield, had been employed as a baby sitter, was a member of the Bernie Assembly of God Church, and was a resident of Bernie. She was first married to Paul Lester Teets on Dec. 10, 1930, and he preceded her in death on April 10. 1965. She married Charles Otis Tate in Bernie on Aug. 20, 1975 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1987. Survivors include two sons, Paul Raymond Teets of Sorrento, Fla., and Wilford Teets of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two daughters, Helen Nadine Malone of Tuscambia, Ala., and Pauletta ?Paula? Beck of Bernie; one stepson, Bernard Tate of Las Vegas, Nev.; one stepdaughter, Beryl Hollis of St. Louis; one brother, John Quincy Adams of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Ester Asbell of Bloomfield; 24 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Loren Dale Teets; three brothers, Amos McCain, Aaron McCain and W.A. McCain; and one sister, Avis McCain. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating. Interment followed in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
