Clayton Gaines

Clayton L. Gaines, son of the late Fount Gaines and Josie White Gaines was born on January 26, 1927 at Pontiac, Mich. and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on June 4, 2002, at the age of 75. Mr. Gaines attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Dexter, retired from International Hat Company in Dexter and then operated a nursery business. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishiArng. He was united in marriage to Sarah Forkum on August 11, 1951 at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Gaines survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Marlene Sherfield, Janice Bazarian and Connie Smith, all of Dexter; by two brothers, Elvin Gaines of Dexter and Leo Gaines of Winter Haven, Fla. by one sister, Thelma Stacy of Dexter: by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Gaines, Cecil Gaines and Coy Gaines. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 5. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Murrell Duffie officiating, Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery at Dexter, with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
