Silas D. Head

Silas Delbert Head of Sharpsville, son of the late Charles and Hattie Emma (Guthrie) Head, was born Aug. 13, 1933 in Painton and died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Sycamore Village Health Care Center, at the age of 68. Mr. Head had been a crew chief and airplane mechanic in the United States Air Force since 1952 until retiring in 1972. He then retired from Delco Electronics in 1994. Silas was a past member of Greentown Alligator Club and U.A.W. Local 292 and enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica, singing and playing cards. On Dec. 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Beuna Barbara (Williams) Head and she preceded him in death on May 20, 2001. Survivors include two sons, Charles Head of Russiaville and James Head of Sharpsville; three daughters, Deborah Sue Rust and June Kuhn, both of Kokomo and Joanna Wolfe of McAllen, Texas; three brothers, Delcie Head of St. Louis, Denver Head of Painton and Doyle Head of Florida; one sister, Dorothy Eaker of Cape Girardeau; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 18 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel with Rev. Ray Houser officiating. Entombment followed in Sunset Memory Garden with military honors held by V.F.W. Post #1152. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
