Dr. Ron Hill

Dr. Ronald T. Hill, son of the late T.S. Hill and Mary Ann Hastings Hill, was born Feb. 23, 1939 at Cape Girardeau and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on May 14, 2002, a the age of 63. Dr. Hill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter where he had served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and member of the Men's Prayer Group. He graduated from the University of Missouri Medical School with a M.D. in 1964. After Internship and General Surgery Residency at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, he spent two years in the United States Army. While in the Army, he was a surgeon in a Mash Unit during the Vietnam War and then served as Chairman of Orthopedic Services at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Ky. He received the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations for Hostile Forces and the Vietnam Bronze Star Medal. In 1971, he began his private practice of general surgery in Dexter. Dr. Hill was on staff at Dexter Memorial Hospital and Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He has been Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Dexter Memorial Hospital, now Missouri Southern Healthcare, was on the Dexter Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, former Board Member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association, former Board Member and Education Chairman of the American Cancer Society, Athletic Physician at Dexter High School, former Board Member of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce, as well as numerous other clubs and medical related boards in Dexter, Stoddard County and the State of Missouri. Ron enjoyed golf, tennis, racquetball, snow skiing and flying. On Sept. 15, 1995 he was united in marriage to Donna Neubauer at Cape Girardeau. Mrs. Hill survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Chris Hill of Springfield, Mo.; by one daughter, Gwen Pollara of Denver, Colo.; by two step-sons, Bill Neubauer of Los Angeles, Calif. and Jonathan Neubauer of Newport Beach, Calif.; by one grandchild; by two sisters, Marilyn Lincoln of Alexandria, Va. and Sue Hellwege of Cape Girardeau. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, May 17. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18 in the First Baptist Church in Dexter with Rev. Wayne Dismuke officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
