Brenda Kaye Pickett of Advance, the daughter of Mary Moore Hamlin and the late Paul Hamlin, was born March 26, 1945 at Sturdivant and died Dec. 2, 2001 at her home in Advance, at the age of 56. Brenda was a Registered Nurse at Advance Nursing Center. She was a 1963 graduate of Zalma High School, had served 14 years in the United States Naval Reserves, had been a Girl Scout leader in Advance and was a member of the Advance United Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to Don Pickett on August 30, 1963 at Zalma. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1980. Survivors include, her mother, Mary Hamlin of Sturdivant; one son, Christopher Pickett of Sturdivant; one daughter, Mendy Henson of Advance; six brothers, Jimmy Hamlin of Wappapello, Jerry Hamlin of Advance, Billy Hamlin of Bethalto, Ill., Mike Hamlin of St. Charles, Tom Hamlin of Fredricktown and Terry Hamlin of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Alene Fish of Alton, Ill. and Pam Brenker of St. Charles; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Besides her father and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Visitation was held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Monday, Dec. 3 from 4:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tom Zych officiating. Interment followed in the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of all arrangements.
