Wilson Watkins

Wilson Watkins, the son of the late James Wesley and Mexi Watkins, was born in Middleton, Tenn. on Feb. 22, 1912, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on Sept. 17, 2001, at the age of 89. Mr. Watkins was a retired farmer and had also worked for 27 years at the International Shoe Co. in Dexter. He attended the New Hope General Baptist Church near Essex. On Sept. 2, 1933 he was united in marriage to Dora V. Ellison, she preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 1993. He is survived by one daughter, Billie Ledbetter of Essex; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Imogene Christian of Poplar Bluff. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Cecil Watkins. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Friday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Doyle Corlew officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
