James Calvin Hyslop, the son of the late Roy and Ethel Wright Hyslop, was born near Bloomfield on Nov. 28, 1925, and died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at the Missouri Southern Heathcare Facility in Dexter at the age of 77. Mr. Hyslop had lived all his life in the Bloomfield community. He was a retired farmer and had driven a school bus for the Bloomfield public schools for 12 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Hills Church near Bloomfield. On March 29, 1947, he was married to Mildred Irene Ellis in Dexter. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Irene Hyslop of Bloomfield; three sons, Stephen Hyslop of Dexter, Dennis Hyslop of Bloomfield, and David Hyslop of Advance; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Florence Bright of Jackson, Bonnie Brown of St. Louis, Betty Summers and Wanda Parks, both of Dexter; two brothers, Paul Hyslop of Bloomfield and Richard Hyslop of Birch Tree. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sunshine Hyslop; three brothers, Billy in infancy, Arthur Hyslop and Robert Hyslop; four sisters, Ruth in infancy, Vivian Nichols, Mary Curd and Edna Harper. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Earl Elfrink of Brownwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.
