Edward George Vehrs

Edward George Vehrs, son of the late Edward Henry and Minnie L. Lessnow Vehrs, was born in Monee, Ill. on October 1, 1918, and died Monday, July 28, 2003, at his home near Dexter at the age of 84. Mr. Vehrs had lived in Monee, Ill., moved to Glen Allen in 1965, returned to Beecher, Ill. in 1984, and had lived in Dexter the past two years. He was a retired farmer and mechanic, a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Monee, Ill. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1941-1945. On February 17, 1946, he was married to Verna Seggebruch in Monee, Ill. He is survived by his wife, Verna Vehrs of Dexter; one daughter, Beverly J. Seabaugh of Dexter; one son, Edward A. Vehrs of Dexter; one sister, Marquerite Batterman of Crete, Ill.; two brothers, Wayne Vehrs of Glen Flora, Wis., and Clemens Vehrs of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Vehrs was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace, Herschel, and Jerome Vehrs; five sisters, Gertrude Muehring, Mildred Kvasnicka, Imogene Parzygnot, Avanell Vehrs, and Joann Bowen. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Visitation will also be held at the Fedde-Helfrich Funeral Home in Peotone, Ill. from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 2, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Monee, Ill. with the Rev. Frank L. Hoss of Monee, Ill. officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery in Monee, Ill.
