Sisters celebrate 50th anniversaries

Sunday, August 31, 2008

Three area sisters and their husbands have the unique circumstance of jointly celebrating their golden wedding anniversaries in 2008. In April of 1958, Shirley Thurston married Wayne Zimmerman and that began a trend in the Thurston family. Shirley's sister, Melba, soon followed suit when she wed Jim Baker just a month later in May. Not to be outdone, though, yet another sister, Mary, became the bride of Jack Norman in August of the same year. All three marriages have sustained fifty years and the six have celebrated their blissful golden anniversaries in this year. The Zimmermans reside in Bernie, while the Normans and the Bakers are all Dexter residents. From left to right are Melba and Jim Baker, Mary and Jack Norman and Shirley and Wayne Zimmerman.
