USDA considering allowing genetically altered seed for 2,4-D

A proposal by Dow AgroSciences to eliminate restrictions on the use of corn and soybean seeds that are genetically altered to resist 2,4-D has caused a lively debate. Dow has developed a genetically altered seed that is resistant to 2,4-D and is seeking permission from the Department of Agriculture to begin marketing the seed. The application includes one variety of corn and two variety of soybeans. The USDA has extended the period for public comment to April 27, 2014.
