Richard Spencer Fulkerson, son of the late William Fulkerson and Mattie Gee Fulkerson, was born on Jan. 29, 1905, at Anniston and died in the Methodist Hospital at Dyersburg, Tenn., on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the age of 97. Mr. Fulkerson was of the Methodist faith, a retired painter at the St. Louis Car Company for 44 years, a former resident of Dexter residing in Dyersburg, Tenn. He was united in marriage to Kaythryn McGowan in 1925 at Marion, Ill. Mrs. Fulkerson preceded him in death. Survivors include five sons: Hubert Fulkerson of Kokomo, Ind., Herbert Fulkerson of Phillip, W. Va., Richard Fulkerson, Jr. of Camden, Del., Robert Fulkerson of lodi, Wis., and Paul Fulkerson of Dyersburg, Tenn.; one daughter, Dixie Lee Fletcher of Carterville, Ill.; one granddaughter, Sandra Fulkerson Phillips who was reared in the home as a daughter; one grandson, Ronnie Fulkerson who was reared in the home as a son; by 28 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Fulkerson, Roy Fulkerson and William Fulkerson; four sisters, Francis Stilley, isabell Akins, Bertha Smith, and Jewell Farrell. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
