Shirley Rodgers, the daughter of the late Charles Benjamin and Ora Mae Hyten Burnett, was born in Charter Oak on Feb. 23, 1937, and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Nov. 24, 2002, at the age of 65. Mrs. Rodgers had worked in the Parma and Essex areas all her life. She had worked at Brown Shoe Company for many years and had worked at Arvin Meritor until her retirement. On Sept. 12, 1953, she was married to James Earl Rodgers in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1995. Surviving are five daughters, Vicky Helgemo and Jamie Curd, both of Dexter, Darlene Bodi of New Madrid, Kathy Ritch of Gray Ridge, and Christine Collier of Kewanee; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Doyle, Tony, and Gary Burnett, all of Harrison, Ark., and Darrell Burnett of Risco; two sisters, Joan Cato of Holladay, Tenn., and Lana Seabaugh of Dexter. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Pleasant, Tommy Ray and Roger Dale Burnett. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Everett Bishop of Dexter and Rev. David Hardin of Essex officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
