Billie Garner, daughter of the late William Blan and Anice Elizabeth Shorte Loflin, was born on Oct. 28, 1913, in Huffman, Ark., and died on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her residence at the age of 88. She was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a founding mother of the Sikeston Little League Association and also served as secretary and treasurer of Little League, Babe Ruth League Association, and Connie Mac Baseball Leagues. She served many years as secretary of the Women?s Bowling Association. She was an active member of the First General Baptist Church of Morehouse where she served as secretary of the Wings? Organization and was a member of the Missionary Society and Bible Class. She was involved with many church youth programs and was an avid crappie fisherwoman. On Oct. 28, 1934, she married Dyer D. Garner in Huffman, Ark., and he preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1984. Survivors include four sons; Dyer D. ?Sonny? Garner, Jr., David Garner, and Tim Garner, all of Sikeston, and Mike Garner of Austin Texas; two daughters Glenda Becker, of Dexter and Pat Hesselrode of Murray KY; 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Bill Garner and two brothers and two sisters. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 27 at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 in the Nunnelee Chapel with Rev. Randy Thomas, pastor of the First General Baptist Church in Morehouse officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
