James Lovins

James Alex Lovins, son of the late James Henry Lovins and Margrit Scritchfields Lovins, was born on Dec. 19, 1916 in Wayne County and died at the Missouri Southern Health Care in Dexter on July 15, 2002 at the age of 85. Mr. Lovins was a member of the Powe Baptist Church, a retired farmer and a resident of rural Bernie. He was united in marriage to Ruth Nell Teeters on October 12, 1935 at Kennett. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2000. Survivors include one son, James Charles Lovins, of Bernie; two daughters, Linda R. Miller and Kathy Ann Cagle, both of Bernie; by one sister, Nell Brown, of Rector, Ark.; by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Aside from his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Marie Hicks; by one brother, Edward Lovins; by two sisters, Ellen Jelks and Mae Jackson. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5 -8 p.m., Wednesday, July 17. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 18, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. Marion Gipson officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
