N. Sherfield

Norman ?Toby? Sherfield, the son of the late Otis and Iva JO Hunt Sherfield, was born in Bernie, on April 30, 1919, and died at his home in Dexter, on June 9, 2002, at the age of 83. Mr. Sherfield had lived in Dexter all of his life and retired after working for 31 years on the Dexter Street Department. He was a Baptist and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. On September 4, 1947 he was married to Melba J. Fulkerson in Piggott, Ark. Surviving are his wife; Melba J. Sherfield of Dexter; by three sons, Roy and Ronnie Sherfield, both of Dexter, David Sherfield of Essex; by two daughters, Barbara Hill of Dexter, Norma Corlew of Essex; by one step-daughter, Dena Lyons of Dexter; by nine grandchildren; by nine great-grandchildren; by one brother, Russell Sherfield of Dexter; and by one sister, Florine Dowdy of Dexter. He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Sherfield; one brother, Henry Sherfield; and one grandson. Visitation was held on Monday, June 10, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted today, Tuesday, June 11 at 10 a.m., in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment followed at the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
