Helen Boone

Helen Boone of Cape Girardeau and formally of New Madrid, daughter of the late Floyd Edward and Mabel Barnes Sharp, was born Sept. 26, 1910 in Marston and died May 17, 2002 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, at the age of 91. Mrs. Boone was a school nurse for the New Madrid County R-1 School District. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and of the Lucy Jefferson Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) in New Madrid. On April 30, 1936 she was united in marriage to George Dawson Boone in New Madrid. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1983. Survivors include one son, William Edward "Bill" Boone of Dexter; two daughters, Ella Hunter Underwood of Huntsville, Ala. and Helen Claire Schott of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Cora Jett of Poplar Bluff; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Visitation was held at the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid from 5 - 7 p.m., Sunday, May 19 where a rosary was recited at 6 p.m. A funeral mass was conducted on Monday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Gerald Brown officiating. Interment followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid with Richards Funeral Home of New Madrid in charge of arrangements.
