Elmer Spangler

Elmer Charles Spangler, son of the late Henry and Versie Ramsey Spangler, was born at Acorn Ridge on Oct. 15, 1916 and died at Sikeston on May 7, 2002, at the age of 85. Mr. Spangler had spent most of his life in the Bloomfield Community. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and a life time member of the D.A.V. in Dexter. Mr. Spangler was a salesman for Union Biscuit Company for eight years before owning and operating the Western Auto Store in Bloomfield from 1950 until retiring in 1979. After retirement, he enjoyed his garden. On Jan. 27, 1940 he was united in marriage to Beulah Kornegger at Poplar Bluff and she survives of the home in Bloomfield. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Helen Hopkins of Overland, Mo. and Charlette Kennedy of Bloomfield; by one sister, Violet Simpson of Fenton, Mo.; by two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Roy and Paul Spangler, one sister, Vivian Spangler and one step-grandson. Visitation will be held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday, May 9. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Dunavin officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
