Elmer Rudolph Shelby, the son of the late Clarence and Minnie Roedel Shelby, was born in Poplar Bluff on Dec. 7, 1936 and died at his home near Puxico on April 18, 2002, at the age of 65. Mr. Shelby had lived in Stoddard County most of his life. He was a farmer and a millwright, a member of the Puxico General Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge #596 A.F. & A. M. in Puxico. In Oct. of 1988, he was united in marriage to Margaret Jeffrey Shelby in Eldon, Iowa and she survives of the home in Puxico. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Clara Ann Davis of St. Clair and Scarlett Carwell of Bloomfield; by one son, Elmer Shelby, Jr. of Tell City, Ind.; by two step-daughters, Phyllis Turner of Tuscumbia, Mo. and Terry Vorhise of Santa Maria, Calif.; by two step-sons, Michael Conger of Oskalossa, Iowa and Donald Conger of Muscatine, Iowa; by four grandchildren; and by one brother, Delmer Shelby of St. Louis. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico after 6 p.m., Friday, April 19, with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
