Ottis Wiley Howard of Matthews, the son of the late Clarence and Bertha Howard, was born Aug. 1, 1921 at Lexon, Mo. and died Jan. 8, 2002 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 80. Ottis was a farmer, a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army and a member of the V.F.W. of Morley. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Flint on Dec. 16, 1959 at Sikeston. She preceded him in death in 1995. Survivors include three sons, Alan Howard and Clarence Howard, both of Lilbourn, and David Howard of Dexter; one daughter, Marceline Hunt of Marston; two brothers, J.L. Howard of Florence and Tollie Howard of Sikeston; four sisters, Venece Hickerson of Cedar Hills, Mo., Elouise Bell of Bellview, Mo., Sue Roper of Advance and Celeste Alexander of Cape Girardeau; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Howard; two sisters and one brother. Visitation will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Morgan Funeral Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Murrell Duffie officiating. Interment will follow at the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of arrangements.
