Rev. Robert William Carter was born April 30, 1916 at Ola, Ark., the son of the late Jess Decater and Pearl Pratt Carter, and died on Wed., Sept. 5, 2001 at the St. Francis Hospital, at the age of 85. Rev. Carter was united in marriage to Reba Kelton on Sept. 27, 1941 at Keota, Okla. She survives of the home in Broken Arrow, Okla. He was a Freewill Baptist Minister licensed in 1957 and ordained in 1958. Rev. Carter pastored churches in Calif., Ark., Mo. and Okla.. He organized two Freewill Baptist Churches, in Dexter in 1976 and Boise City, Okla. in 1975. He retired in May of 1990. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, was a member of Northside Freewill Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sue Grubbs of Broken Arrow, Okla.. and Carol Inklebarger of Ft. Smith, Ark.; one son, Jerry Carter of Laurie, Mo.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alva Sampson. Funeral services will be held at the Hayhurst Funeral Chapel in Broken Arrow, Okla. on Fri., Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Woods officiating, assisted by Rev. John Woods and Rev. Bill Kelton. Interment will follow at Park Grove Cemetery with Hayhurst Funeral Home of Broken Arrow in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
