Dawsey Hollis

Dawsey Hollis, the son of the late Jim and Alma Virginia Hopgood Hollis, was born in Bernie on March 14, 1920 and died on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston at the age of 83. Mr. Hollis had lived in the Puxico and Bloomfield communities all his life. He had worked as a farmer and a log hauler. On July 22, 1939, he was married to Geneva McGinley in Gideon. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1990. Survivors include: two daughters, Rosie Luttrel of Poplar Bluff and Virginia Gray of Malden; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hollis of Parma; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dicie Whiffen of Poplar Bluff. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, William Dawsey Hollis; two daughters, Shirley Taylor and Geraldine McCarthy; three grandchildren; six brothers, three in infancy and Alec, Ralph and Frank Hollis; and three sisters, Lillie Hollis, Juanita Shrum and Halcyon Sanders. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at 1 p.m. in the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
