Blessings

Posted Monday, December 20, 2010, at 7:29 AM

As I am writing the last Kathleen's Korner for the year, we have just left the Thanksgiving holidays and entering the Christmas holidays and another new year.

As I sit here thinking over the last year, my mind is racing in all directions. From the good, bad, indifferent and so many blessings that came my way.

I shared with you earlier about how all our appliances went out on us, and we had to replace each of them...it went something like this.

First our washer, then our stove, next the dryer. One night the next items were the garbage disposal; and next morning our dishwasher. Two televisions, two laptops, my hairdryer, and the coffee maker were the next. Since that column, our refrigerator and the element on our hot water heater.

My office computer came down with a virus, and I had to call the computer doctor. I can only imagine what you're thinking by now.

Where's the partridge in a pear tree?

We survived all this with our nerves somewhat intack.

On top of all this, Collin was in the hospital three times, once to have a pacemaker installed. Most recently my back blew out on me, and I wound up in the emergency room. This put me down for quite sometime. So, now I must be very careful or they say I will be out of commission again. And---as I sit here writing I have absolutely the worst cold I have had in, well, I can't even remember how long. Oh, I forgot. I fell last week and bunged up my knee. You missed it. It happened in front of Dexter Realty and Kathleen's Treasure Cove, right on the street!

With all that said, God is still good and Jesus still loves me.

"This I know for the Bible tells me so."

My blessings far outweigh the above. I have been blessed with my wonderful children and grandchildren stepping in and stepping up when the need was there. My wonderful husband lovingly cared and nursed me through the very trying days with my back. Mary and Dorothy covered for me at work. Mom sat with me during the day, and the prayers of so many. Yes, my blessings far outweigh it all.

I count it a blessing the day that C.H. Parsons sorta gave me a kickstart about writing. After that conversation, the idea of Kathleen's Korner formed in my mind. I also count it a blessing when I presented the idea to Bud Hunt of the Statesman, and he so graciously gave me the opportunity for Kathleen's Korner. Noreen is also a blessing to me when I get stumped about something, and she is always there for me to help me get the "Korner" right.

I have been blessed by so many of you and your kind words about how much you enjoy my column. I never would have guessed how many would read that silly little column and actually enjoy it and say they never miss it. I am also in awe of how many of you gentlemen read it. Thanks guys!

I could go on and on forever about blessings, but once again space won't permit. I do want to say, let's not stop our good deeds after Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Instead of making new year's resolutions, let's make new year comittments - comittments to make other lives better with maybe just a kind word or a smile when we don't feel like it. Don't forget those special prayers for our loved ones, our friends, our hometown, our state, our schools and children, and our great United States of America.

Let's try to be more like Jesus in the coming New year.

"A new commandment I give you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 13: 34,35

Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Yes I did say Merry CHRISTmas.

See ya next time somewhere in a Korner.

Another home run for you! You need to rerun this in January when all the good feelings have gone by the wayside. We always need to be reminded of our good moments. Thanks for doing so.

Dittos to Geezerette's comment. We do need to be reminded to count our blessings (Psalm 103).

A big Amen to your blog!

Kathleen is a resident of Dexter. She was born in Indiana, but her parents moved their family back to the Dexter area when she was three. Other than three years she and her husband, Collin, lived in St. Charles, Mo. and ten years in Birmingham, Alabama, she has spent her life in Dexter. As you can tell, Kathleen is a people person and believes in giving credit to whom credit is due. Thus, the reason for her hero/heroine column every other week in Kathleen's Korner. As you can tell, she also like to have fun, most of the time at her own expense. Kathleen (Grubbs) is a 1964 graduate of Dexter High School and invites her friends to her "Korner."
