The sounds of schooldays
Ahhh. Listen to those sounds! See those sights. That is the sound and sights of another new school year.
We live behind the schools and I can't think of a better place to live. When school is in session I can't wait every morning to see those big yellow buses rolling out to pick up our children and take them back to the four schools.
I love having my morning coffee sitting in my swing and listening to the sounds of children and teenagers getting ready for their school day. I can even hear the teachers over the intercom giving whatever instructions are needed for the day.
During recess I hear the younger children laughing and playing on the play ground equipment. I can see some of them play chase. Maybe a little boy or girl chasing their first love? That is such joy to my eyes and ears. Perhaps it keeps me in touch as to when my grown children and grandchildren were in school. I still have one grandson and several great-nieces and nephews in school and it gives me such joy to know they are close enough that maybe, some of those sounds of laughter are theirs. Heck! I'm making myself cry.
The sounds of the band practice. How sweet. I hear them durintheir practice, then I hear them during our home games. That is music to my ears. No pun intended.
The sounds of the home games. The excitement in the voice of the sports announcer. The yells and screams of the crowd. The lights. How quiet and dark it gets when those games are over. I can hardly wait for another home game!
The traffic. I even enjoy the traffic! The honking and waving. It is the sight and sounds of life! Yes, it can get annoying at times when I may need to get somewhere quickly. That means I just need to get my bootie moving a little sooner.
Then, when I drive by our wonderful schools and see the crowds of children, parents, and teachers, it makes me proud of our local schools. We are not perfect, but we do have a good school system...not only Dexter, but all our Stoddard County schools.
The nine months go by so quickly. School is over for the summer. The quietness is almost deafening to me. I have the tendency to get lonesome. Then it starts all over again, this time, as every year before, without those who were in the senior class. They have started on their way to a new and different life, prayerfully, to a good life and future. As we lose them, another class comes to us, the new kindergarten class. Then it starts all over again, those wonderful sights and sounds of school children.
For years, every time I pass our schools I whisper a prayer to keep our children safe from predators, any type of violators, regardless who they may be. Even from the children themselves. Therefore, I would like to ask all of you who read Kathleen's Korner to join me in these prayers...not only for the children, but the teachers, the administrators, the parents and grandparents and anyone who is connected to our school system.
See ya net time in the Korner.
