Navarre Beach: I took this photo inside the Sailor's Grill yesterday, after a most DELICIOUS lunch of grilled shrimp salad and a Pogoda fish sandwich (whitefish with swiss cheese, mushrooms, and onions on sourdough bread.) Yum! The owner said, "Ya'll come!" They make a mean margarita, too! As I understand it, Navarre, Florida is less commercialized than Destin, where we saw a GARGANTUAN water park! (300-foot waterslide, parachute drop, all kinds of merry-go-rounds and ferris wheels.) Needless to say, this old lady will not be partaking of those heady delights..... According to the owner of the Sailor's grill, the name "Navarre" came from a town in Spain. It's just a hop, skip and a jump from Pensacola. Oh, yes, Jarret Bollinger, if you read this blog, dear former student of mine, I well remember that senior trip we took your class on --Was it '92?? I have to admit that we teachers didn't enjoy it as much as you kids; however, I seem to also remember that you were on the beach one night when the ambulance was picking up the body of a swimmer who had gotten caught in the undertow. I was never so glad to get you kids safely back to Oran! I hope my new experiences in the sunshine state are more pleasant! Why would you not partake of the wilder side of life? It's worth the temporary loss of oxygen to the brain just to see the faces of the much younger ones when they see your taking part of the activities. Youth is wasted on the young.
I have wonderful memories of Navarre for over 40 years. Enjoy your travels and keep of trucking and posting.
Navarre is one of my favorite places, too. What a lovely place for lunch! Maybe we should all meet there instead of at Faye's. Wonder if lovebooks would be willing to meet us there? We could still wear a red rose. Dexterite, want to journey on down? I'd love to meet you all face to face.
When I was in 5th grade in Hazelwood, Mo, our teacher showed us slides of her summer vacation and told us about the history of the place she visited. We absorbed more in our little minds about history because we didn't know we were learning. We thought we were having a break from class and having fun.
