Red, white and blue!Posted Sunday, July 3, 2011, at 9:24 AM
The granite sign on the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery refers to the "Home of the Veterans' Avenue of Flags": "Gratefully Remembered: Flags displayed three times per year on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veteran's Day."
This weekend the nation is decorated in red, white, and blue. On our trip to Marquand for the grand opening of a new winery and restaurant, we passed through the rolling hills of Bollinger County to Marble Hill and were awed by the flag display at the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery! We had to turn around and go back, so I could attempt to take some photos. The entire cemetery is lined with flags, and it's impossible to do it justice--at least with my Canon Power Shot A630. I've chosen the shot that my daughter and I felt was best. Happy Independence Day from the hills of north Stoddard and South Bollinger Counties! Wow, the blog attracted Ken Steinhoff! I'm impressed!
The piece on the Confederate Cemetery is wonderful, Ken! Thanks for posting it!
Nothing is more beautiful than the Missouri Veterans Cementary in Bloomfield. I love it when all of the flags are flying.
vb fan, One thing that has impressed me about Stoddard County is our patriotism. When it comes to celebrating or observing National holidays and memorials, we put all our political and religious differences behind us and show America what we really are: Americans!
