There oughta be a law....

Posted Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 10:13 AM

Some things have been grating against my nerves lately, so I'm getting them off my chest and clearing the air! Here are my most recent things that should be against the law:

* Texting and driving! Oh, my--just how many people do I see weaving from one lane to the other--and when I catch up to them, I see the reason--they're trying to text with fingers on both hands, while also steering their vehicle. How many do I see running stop signs and (yes) stop lights while texting.

* Talking on the cell phone! Admit it, people! This is almost as bad! Some people simply cannot talk and drive at the same time, without running the rest of us off the road!

* Driving through McD with four or more people in the car--each ordering a 7-course meal, while the rest of us burn up three gallons of gas waiting on a quick cuppa coffee!

* Throwing trash out on the highways and country roads! (yes, I know this IS against the law, for all the good it does...)

* Driving below the speed limit in the left hand lane during rush hour! (My daughter added this one, but my BFF would agree wholeheartedly!) My daughter adds that many of these people are talking on the cell phone.

* Driving slowly, then speeding up, then slowing down...then speeding up....ad infinitum! These oblivious individuals are often on the cell phone or texting.

* Opening a car door into the car next to them in the parking lot. This is careless, disrespectful and rude!

Posting from the crowded highway of life, this is your rural reporter Madeline, hoping that we all make it through the holidays in one piece! Have a happy and safe New Year!

I feel better now just reading this post. Surely all the guilty ones will decide to do better. But again most folks who are guilty of this are too ignorant to read the newspaper.
