See you at the races!
Several friends and relatives are enjoying what I understand is the last race weekend for the year at Hot Springs, Arkansas. Though I can't be with them, I'll share the picture I took earlier this year, the one that my loyal reader "lovebooks" mentioned in my last blog.
This beautiful horse sculpture has greeted visitors at the entrance of the Woodlawn race track in Hot Springs, Arkansas since it was commissioned in 1991. The remarkably life-like statue was created by former Dexter resident Alan Gibson, who made it in two pieces and then put it together on site.
As Lovebooks points out, Gibson goes down each year to change the color of the jockey's silks, as a new winner of the Arkansas Derby is declared. This year's winner of the last race would appear to be a horse named Archarcharch, ridden by jockey John Court. Silk colors were purple and yellow, which will look very nice on Gibson's sculpture.

See you at the races next year!
